Medium and large sized parrots require parrot foot toys that are suitable for their large feet. African Grey’s have very large and dexterous zygodactyl feet. Their feet require toys that provide them with gripping and manipulation. Foot toys for African Grey’s should vary in size, shape, texture, and color. They should be able to manipulate the toys, move them around, and be able to lift them up completely to their beak. Providing toys that exercise the feet and help to maintain and improve dexterity and coordination is very important. Another aspect of foot health for African Grey’s involves the types of perches they have in their cage. I usually provide different diameter perches in varying length and materials. Some perches are soft, such as the Comfy Perch, others are hard like a flavored mineral perch, and even wood or Chola perches are just as important. Your Grey and his feet will thank you for providing good foot toys and perches to keep his feet in tip top shape.
